FHI 360 Reaffirms Long-Term Commitment to Cambodia’s Health System Reform

Phnom penh: Family Health International (FHI) 360, the U.S.-based global health and development organization, has pledged to deepen its 28-year partnership with Cambodia, focusing on digital health transformation and the push toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the commitment was formalized during a meeting on Thursday between Cambodia's Minister of Health, H.E. Professor Chheang Ra, and Dr. Christian Pitter, FHI 360 Senior Vice President for Global Programmes and Science. Minister Chheang Ra acknowledged the organization's role in strengthening Cambodia's healthcare resilience, particularly through the EpiC project (HIV and health security), the Alive and Thrive nutrition initiative, and infectious disease surveillance systems. "FHI 360's involvement is a cornerstone of our efforts to ensure the sustainable well-being of our citizens," the Minister said.

Operating in Cambodia since 1998, FHI 360 currently manages projects backed by the U.S. Department of State, the Global Fund, and the Government of Ireland. Dr. Pitter highlighted that these resources are being directed into technical solutions and data-driven equity, with a focus on the "Digital Health" ecosystem.

To meet the Royal Government's 2026 health objectives, the Ministry of Health outlined priority areas for FHI 360's continued support: increasing health education for communities, combating diseases, addressing climate change's health impacts, strengthening service quality across public and private providers, and developing human resources and digital health.

The session concluded with both parties reaffirming a shared goal: a quality-driven, equitable healthcare system that aligns with the Royal Government of Cambodia's strategic roadmap.
