Educated Youth Touted as Cambodia’s Future Defence Shield, Says Information Minister

Cambodia: Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra emphasised on Friday the importance of investing in the knowledge, discipline, morality, and unity of children as a strategic move for the future amidst ongoing global challenges and uncertainties. He made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the "2026 Information Ministry Awards for Children's Music and Song Festival."

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Neth Pheaktra highlighted that educated and virtuous children will serve as the nation's strongest defence shield. The festival, themed "Children as Seeds of Peace, Education as a Weapon and National Defence Shield," underscores the vital role of youth in sustaining Cambodia's peace, stability, and development.

The Minister noted that art can be an effective medium for social education and message delivery, particularly for the younger generation. He praised a performance titled "The Tragedy of Preah Vihear Temple" for its success in educating children about national history while promoting patriotism and cultural heritage protection.

The event took place at the Ministry of Information's Chaktomuk Mongkul Hall and was attended by Lok Chumteav Tuy Serey Ratanak, officials, artists, educators, and students. H.E. Mrs. Nong Thuok, Undersecretary of State and Vice Chair of the Festival's Secretariat, reported that the competition began on April 24, featuring 31 groups from 17 primary schools across Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Thom, and Siem Reap.

Milky Way Dangkor Primary School (Group 1) emerged as the top winner, followed by Milky Way Pursenchey Primary School in second place, and Wat Bo Primary School (Group 2) from Siem Reap in third.
