U.S.-ASEAN Business Council and Cambodian Health Ministry Strengthen Health Sector Partnership

Phnom penh: Cambodia’s Ministry of Health and the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (U.S.-ABC) have formalized their commitment to boost investment and cooperation in health-sector capacity building, aiming to enhance public health and national well-being.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodia’s Health Minister, Professor Chheang Ra, welcomed a high-level U.S.-ABC delegation at the Ministry headquarters in Phnom Penh. The delegation was led by Mr. Jack Myint, a member of the Council’s Board of Directors, and included representatives from several major member companies.

The Minister acknowledged the ongoing investment by the U.S.-ABC and its member companies in Cambodia’s health sector, which includes the registration and supply of essential medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and vaccines. Professor Chheang Ra highlighted the importance of these contributions in strengthening diagnosis, treatment, and overall healthcare service delivery to the Cambodian population.

Mr. Jack Myint recognized Cambodia’s progress in developing its healthcare system. Discussions between both parties focused on streamlining trade and investment within the sector, emphasizing the need for regulatory compliance, affordability of products, safety protocols, and high quality standards.

Professor Chheang Ra encouraged the U.S.-ABC to explore more comprehensive forms of collaboration beyond direct investment and outlined specific areas for advanced partnership. The Minister also welcomed the U.S.-ABC’s support for the Ministry of Health’s goal to achieve universal health coverage, a key objective aligned with the Cambodian Royal Government’s current Pentagonal Strategy.
