Pursat: More than 3,000 former migrant workers and Cambodian citizens secured jobs or enrolled in technical training programmes during recent employment forums held in western Cambodia, a spokesperson said on Monday.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the forums focused on employment opportunities, social security, and vocational training, organized by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training in Pursat and Battambang on February 28 and March 1. Ministry spokesperson Sun Mesa reported that a total of 3,574 former migrant workers returning from Thailand and local residents attended the events to explore job openings, learn about social security benefits, and register for free technical and vocational training courses.
Of the participants, 413 registered for skills training programmes, while 811 applicants, according to preliminary figures, were recruited by 17 companies, factories, and enterprises that conducted on-site job promotions and hiring. The spokesperson encouraged Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand and other citizens who did not attend the forums to contact the ministry's hotline at 1297, which operates seven days a week, to access employment services and free technical and vocational training opportunities.
To date, the ministry has organized 597 employment forums nationwide, providing job opportunities to more than 620,000 Cambodians, including former migrant workers returning from Thailand, he added.
