Phnom penh: The National Culture Day plays a vital role in strengthening Cambodia's national identity, social harmony, and sustainable socio-economic development, His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, affirmed in a Royal Message marking the 28th National Culture Day, observed on Mar. 3, 2026.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Cambodian monarch emphasised that the National Culture Day is an important annual occasion for raising public awareness of the immense value of Cambodia's cultural heritage, which forms the foundation of the nation's identity and dignity. He noted that the rich legacy left by Khmer ancestors remains a driving force for national unity and long-term development.
His Majesty the King highlighted that the celebration of National Culture Day promotes patriotism grounded in moral values and contributes to social harmony, national pride, and the prestige of the Kingdom of Cambodia. He stressed that culture is an essential element for ensuring stability and progress in society.
The monarch further underscored the role of National Culture Day in encouraging citizens to recognise, cherish, preserve, and protect national culture. He paid particular attention to the role of younger generations as a key force in safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage, traditions, customs, and the diverse cultures of indigenous ethnic minority communities, ensuring their continuity and vitality.
Calling on all Cambodians to uphold culture as a shared national responsibility, His Majesty the King recalled the national motto: 'When culture fades, the nation dissolves; when culture flourishes, the nation prospers.'
