Japan Supports Cambodia’s Flood Protection Efforts

Phnom penh: The Government of Japan has provided financial support for the Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement Project in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. The Exchange of Notes and related documents regarding the extension of a Japanese Yen Loan for the project was signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) on Thursday afternoon.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the signatories of the agreement were Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. UENO Atsushi. The loan amounts to JPY 6,908,000,000, which is approximately US$ 46,000,000.

This project aims to enhance the resilience of Phnom Penh's infrastructure against flooding, thereby preventing negative impacts on daily life and economic activities. The press release emphasized that this continued financial assistance reflects Japan's steadfast commitment to promoting Cambodia's socio-economic development and the Cambodia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
