Cambodian Products Expand Reach in Global Supermarkets

Phnom Penh:The Ministry of Commerce has announced a significant expansion of Cambodian processed products in over 23,000 large supermarkets and popular mini-mart locations worldwide.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, this initiative is part of the Ministry's broader strategy to empower Cambodian producers and businesses to reach new consumer demographics and enhance their presence in competitive international markets. The Ministry reported facilitating 38 transactions and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to promote Cambodian products across these global retail venues.

These international markets span various regions, including the US, EU, UK, Japan, China, and ASEAN countries. The Ministry's goal is to diversify Cambodia's export offerings and contribute to the nation's long-term trade development, as stated by H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce.

"Our objective is not merely to increase export volumes but to elevate the international branding and presence of Cambodian-made goods," Mrs. Cham emphasized. She noted that integrating local producers into international retail networks offers a vital opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises to expand and gain direct access to global consumers.

The Ministry urges Cambodian enterprises to enhance product quality, improve packaging, and adhere to international production standards to meet the sophisticated demands of foreign markets. Such improvements are essential for the competitiveness of Cambodian goods globally.

Figures from the Ministry of Commerce reveal that Cambodia exported goods worth US$24 billion in the first eight months of the year, marking a 19.7 percent increase from the same period last year. Key trading partners include China, the US, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, and several European countries.

Cambodia's primary exports encompass garments, textiles, footwear, travel goods, agricultural products, furniture, vehicle tyres, solar panels, bicycles, electrical equipment, electronic components, automotive parts, and fishery products. Agricultural exports, particularly rice, paddy, cashew nuts, cassava, and rubber, are crucial in diversifying the country's export base beyond traditional manufacturing.
