Tokyo: H.E. Chum Sounry, Ambassador-Designate of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Japan, paid on Mar. 31 a courtesy call on H.E. Kiuchi Minoru, Minister in charge of Japan's Growth Strategy, Member of the House of Representatives, and Secretary-General of the Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship League. During the meeting at the Central Government Building in Tokyo, H.E. Ambassador expressed his sincere appreciation for the longstanding efforts of the Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship League in promoting friendship and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ambassador underscored the importance Cambodia attaches to parliamentary diplomacy as a key pillar of bilateral relations and highlighted the League's important role in enhancing mutual understanding, fostering exchanges between parliamentarians, and promoting people-to-people ties. H.E. Chum Sounry noted with satisfaction that Cambodia and Japan currently enjoy a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reflecting deep trust and robust cooperation across a wide range of areas, including political dialogue, development cooperation, trade and investment, human resource development, security, and cultural exchanges.

He reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to further strengthening cooperation, including through enhanced parliamentary exchanges with a view to deepening the Cambodia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He briefed Minister Minoru on the current situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border, reiterating Cambodia's firm commitment to restraint, peaceful resolution, and the use of existing bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), as the legal framework for addressing border issues. He also expressed appreciation for Japan's understanding, constructive stance, and humanitarian support extended to affected Cambodian civilians.
