Cambodia Reports Seventh Human Case of H5N1 Bird Flu in 2023

Phnom Penh: A 41-year-old woman from Siem Reap province in north-western Cambodia has tested positive for the H5N1 avian influenza, marking the seventh human case recorded in the country this year, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health in a statement released last night. The National Institute of Public Health’s laboratory results, disclosed yesterday, confirmed the woman’s positive status for the H5N1 virus.

According to Nam News Network, the patient is exhibiting symptoms including fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, and her condition is currently critical. This latest case contributes to a total of seven human infections of H5N1 bird flu reported in Cambodia this year, out of which five have resulted in death.

The Ministry of Health further noted that since 2003, Cambodia has documented 79 human cases of H5N1 influenza, with 48 of those resulting in fatalities. The ongoing monitoring and response efforts continue to address the public health risk posed by the virus.
