Cambodia Facilitates AOT’s Visit to Assess Border Situation in Banteay Meanchey Province

Cambodia: The Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) has facilitated a field visit by the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to assess conditions along the Cambodia-Thailand border and monitor the implementation of agreed ceasefire measures. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the visit, led by the AOT's Head of Mission from the Philippines, was conducted on June 23 at 9:38 a.m. at Prey Chan village, O'Beichoan commune, O'Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. The purpose of the mission was to observe, verify, and report on the situation in the area, which has been affected by attacks, the installation of barbed wire, and the deployment of container structures by Thai military forces. Consequently, many Cambodian families have not yet been able to return to their homes. The mission also focused on monitoring compliance with and the implementation of measures contained in the Joint Statement following the entry into force of the ceasefire. Cambodia reiterated its position against recognizing any alteration of border lin es resulting from the use of force and stressed the importance of resuming border demarcation work through the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC). The statement highlighted Point 3 of the Joint Statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held on Dec. 27, 2025. This point prioritizes the continuation of survey and demarcation work to facilitate the safe, peaceful, and dignified return of affected civilians. Furthermore, Cambodia reaffirmed its continued support for the AOT and underscored the importance of strengthening the team's role and mandate to verify and ensure effective implementation of the ceasefire and agreed measures between the two countries. According to the statement, Cambodia remains open to support from friendly countries willing to contribute to efforts aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and mutual confidence in maintaining peace and stability along the border.
