Bavet City Landfill Facility Officially Inaugurated Under Livable Cities Project

Bavet: A new landfill facility in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province, developed under the Livable Cities Investment Project, was officially inaugurated on Monday to improve solid waste management and environmental sanitation. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, with the participation of Ms. Yasmin Siddiqi, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Cambodia, along with provincial governors, ministry officials, and local residents. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the landfill, which covers an area of 20.7 hectares, began construction in February 2025 and was completed in March 2026. It is designed to serve the city for up to 20 years, providing solid waste management services to residents in five communes: Bavet, Prey Angkunh, Prasat, Bati, and Chrak Mtes. The facility is designed with five landfill cells to be developed in four phases. In the first phase, two cells have been constructed with a total capacity of approximately 427,000 cubic metres, expected to support waste disposal needs for about six and a half years. The project is expected to significantly improve sanitation and environmental conditions in Bavet city, contributing to better public health and quality of life for local residents.
