YOUNG WOMAN ENTREPRENEUR MAKES GOOD INCOME SELLING TAPIOCA-BASED KUIH

KOTA BHARU, Zarin Ernyza Mat Salleh is an entrepreneur who is making good income by selling traditional kuih made from tapioca.

The 32-year-old mother of two said the idea to start the business came about in 2018 after she bought ‘ubi tonyoh’ (mashed tapioca) from a friend.

“It was delicious, and I immediately asked my mother how to make it. Then, I started to sell ‘ubi tonyoh’ and seven other tapioca-based delicacies namely ‘boko ubi kayu’, ‘pengat ubi’, ‘sira ubi’, ‘chacha ubi’, ‘poli ubi’, ‘ubi kayu rebus’ and ‘tepung manis ubi kayu’, all using my mother’s recipes,” she told Bernama when met at Kampung Telaga Bata, here, today.

Zarin Ernyza said sales will increase during the monsoon season to the extent that she has to process a total of 200 kg of tapioca a day to make the snacks to be distributed to her sales agents in Kota Bharu, Bachok, Pasir Mas and Pasir Puteh.

According to Zarin Ernyza, she gets her tapioca supply from her father who plants tapioca for a living.

“Alhamdulillah, I have more than 10 agents helping me with this business to earn between RM500 and RM700 a day,” she said, adding that she is selling them at RM4 to RM6 per container.
