Thai Renaissance Drones Reported Violating Cambodia’s Sovereignty

Cambodia: The Ministry of Interior of Cambodia has reported incursions by Thai reconnaissance drones into Cambodian sovereign territory on Jan. 5 and 6, 2026.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a report released today by the Ministry details the deployment of Thai reconnaissance drones over Pursat province and the Cham Yeam International Border Gate in Koh Kong province on the night of Jan. 5, violating Cambodia's territorial integrity.

Similarly, on the night of Jan. 6, 2026, the Thai side reportedly deployed one reconnaissance drone from Gate 56, along with two additional drones crossing over O'Phluk Damrei in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province. The Ministry of Interior of the Royal Government of Cambodia continues to closely monitor developments along the frontline, in collaboration with the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as highlighted in the report.

The Ministry is also addressing the management of displaced persons, instructing relevant provincial administrations to collect data, conduct inspections, and address impacts comprehensively. Efforts are being made to resume public service delivery, strengthen cooperation with frontline forces, enhance security measures, and maintain situational control in the border provinces.

The report further notes that by 6:00 a.m. on Jan. 7, an additional 16,756 displaced persons had returned home. Of the more than 640,000 people displaced, approximately 460,000 have now returned, leaving 186,760 displaced persons, including 98,027 women and 61,169 children, in displacement sites.
