Taiwan Issue: Cambodia Reaffirms One-China Policy, Calls for Tension De-escalation

Phnom penh: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia has reaffirmed the Kingdom's firm adherence to the One-China Policy while calling on all parties concerned to work toward de-escalating tensions related to the Taiwan issue.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in response to media inquiries on the latest developments concerning Taiwan, the Spokesperson of the Ministry said Cambodia strongly advocates for the efforts to maintain regional peace, stability and harmony and upholds the principles of mutual respect and the peaceful resolution of differences and disputes.

Cambodia earnestly hopes that all parties concerned will find appropriate avenue to de-escalate the situation, the Spokesperson noted.

The Ministry reiterated that Cambodia resolutely adheres to the One-China Policy and recognises that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole lawful government representing the whole of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.

'Cambodia considers the issue related to Taiwan an internal affair of the People's Republic of China,' the Spokesperson underlined, adding that the Kingdom supports China's effort to achieve national reunification, while opposing any form of 'Taiwan Independence."
