Joint ministerial committee yesterday set forth 2019-2020 tourism development strategic plan and decisions to promote visitors to Cambodia’s top historical, cultural and natural province of Siem Reap.
The strategic direction followed a consultation meeting chaired by tourism and environment ministers H.E. Thong Khon and H.E. Say Samal, with participation from officials from concerned government ministries and institutions at Siem Reap province.
With the motto of Turning Challenges into Opportunities, the tourism development strategic plan covers tourism product diversification for longer stay of tourists, advancing competitiveness, connections creation, and new branding for Siem Reap areas.
In alignment with the plan, the joint ministerial meeting decided to upgrade areas surrounding the province’s Tonle Sap Lake and famous Kulen Mountain into eco-village and trekking and hiking zones with competitive package of services.
The current Siem Reap town, guided by the decision, will be further beautified with various attractions, including standard food streets, while a night tour to Angkor archeological park will also introduced.
About 60 kilometres from the town to the east, the joint committee will also allow the establishment of modern and high buildings and infrastructures to emerge along the province’s new international airport under construction.
It is expected that the new tourism development strategic plan and decisions will not only address the declining tourist influx to Siem Reap, but also boost more visitors to the province.
