Phnom penh: Senior Minister Ly Thuch has called on a group of visiting Chinese students to help share with the world Cambodia’s achievements, including its long-standing efforts in landmine clearance.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Ly Thuch, who is the First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), made the appeal during a meeting with the students on Aug. 13 at the CMAA headquarters. The students, currently pursuing their studies in the United States, were in Cambodia for a study tour facilitated by the Global Sunshine Group.
During the visit, CMAA officials provided the delegation with a comprehensive briefing on the country’s landmine and explosive remnants of war (ERW) situation. They also highlighted the Royal Government’s three-decade commitment to addressing these legacies of conflict, which has been crucial for fostering socio-economic development and maintaining peace.
Senior Minister Ly Thuch emphasized that clearing landmines and ERW is a vital task essential for ensuring public safety and enabling national recovery after Cambodia’s prolonged civil war. He credited the success of these efforts to the full peace achieved under the Win-Win policy of former Prime Minister and current Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen. He added that the current 7th-mandate Royal Government, led by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, remains steadfast in its commitment to a mine-free Cambodia, guided by a clear vision and unwavering political will.
He underscored that contributions from friendly nations, development partners, and donors are critical to overcoming the remaining threats posed by ERW. In this context, he specifically asked the visiting students to help raise international awareness of Cambodia’s accomplishments, including its remarkable progress in mine clearance.
