Schools in Koh Kong and Battambang Provinces Allowed to Reopen

Phnom penh: Schools in Koh Kong province, as well as those in the districts of Samlot, Kamrieng, Sampov Loun, Phnom Proeuk, and Banon in Battambang province, have been authorised to reopen as of today.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the resumption of classes was approved following an improvement in the security situation, made possible by the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand that came into effect at noon on Dec. 27.

It is worth recalling that more than 1,000 schools across seven provinces - Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Siem Reap, and Koh Kong - were forced to close due to indiscriminate attacks by Thai forces between Dec. 7 and 27, 2025.

These closures disrupted the education of more than 250,000 students and affected approximately 12,000 teachers.
