Phnom penh: Private tourism operators from ASEAN countries have expressed strong interest in Cambodia's tourism market, citing the Kingdom's stability, rich cultural heritage, and growing potential for regional cooperation. The remarks were made on Jan. 29 during a working meeting held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2026 between H.E. Huot Hak, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, and representatives of 18 private tourism companies from various ASEAN member states.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting brought together around 30 participants, including the President of the Cambodia Tourism Association (CATA), the Chief Executive Officer of the Cambodia Tourism Board (CTB), senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, and other stakeholders. The discussion focused on promoting international tourist arrivals to Cambodia and exploring opportunities for future collaboration.
During the discussion, H.E. Minister briefed the ASEAN tourism operators on Cambodia's overall situation, highlighting peace, security, public order, and macroeconomic stability as key foundations that support tourism development and investment. "Cambodia is a safe and attractive tourism destination that offers diverse experiences to international visitors through its cultural and natural tourism potential, cuisine, traditions, and customs, rich and ancient history, as well as the friendliness and warm smiles of the Cambodian people, all of which form the Cambodian identity," H.E. Huot Hak said.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the ASEAN tourism operators responded positively to the briefing and expressed enthusiasm about Cambodia's tourism prospects. Many indicated a strong interest in visiting the country in person to further assess opportunities for developing tour packages aimed at international markets. The operators also showed readiness to work closely with Cambodia's private sector and the Cambodia Tourism Board to promote the Kingdom as a competitive and appealing destination within the ASEAN tourism landscape.
The engagement reflects growing regional confidence in Cambodia's tourism sector as the country continues efforts to attract international visitors and strengthen cooperation with ASEAN partners.
