Rabat: Progress and Socialism Party (PPS) Secretary General Nabil Benabdallah described his party's election results as "disappointing" and below expectations.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, "The party had expected more significant results, given the considerable efforts it made over the past five years in opposition, as well as its initiatives to highlight shortcomings in the government's performance," Benabdallah told the press.

The PPS leader said the overall voting trend "reflects a popular reaction to the government's failure to meet citizens' fundamental needs," noting that the election was held under normal conditions thanks to the efforts made by the authorities.

Benabdallah attributed his party's results mainly to the low voter turnout, stressing that the PPS had consistently called for greater citizen participation.

He added that the party's Political Bureau should meet to review the results and determine its orientations for the post-election period.

According to provisional results, the PPS won 19 seats, while the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) topped the results with 97 seats.
