PM Praises Smooth Process of Election Campaign

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has spoken highly of the smooth and non-violent process of the campaign for the 5th-mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election since it was kicked off on May 21, 2022.

“In the past few days, there is nothing to worry about. The election process went well in a calm and politically neutral environment,” he said in his voice message this afternoon before his departure from Davos-Klosters, Switzerland where he attended the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2022.

The Premier also re-appealed to his compatriots and all political parties to act with dignity and ensure that the local elections are conducted in a neutral, non-violent and non-threatening political environment in order to enable the people to choose their leaders.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his strong hope that through regular elections, the multi-party liberal democracy process in Cambodia will be further strengthened.

The election campaign will run through till June 3 while the election day will fall on June 5, 2022.

There are in total 86,092 candidacies, 27,813 of them are female, nominated by the 17 registered political parties to race for the 1,652 Communes/Sangkat in Cambodia.

The official voter list shows that Cambodia has in total 9,205,681 eligible voters, of them 4,904,832 are women.

The figure represents 87.94 percent of the total population aged 18 years up, who will go to vote at 23,602 designated polling stations across the country.
