Over 500 Hotels and Guest Houses in Cambodia Reopened

Some 520 hotels and guest houses in Cambodia have reopened their operation, as COVID-19 in the country is easing, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

As of July 31, 2022, Cambodia has in total 739 hotels and guest houses.

Aside from the reopened hotels and guest houses, 190 continue to postpone their operation while 29 others were shut down due to the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 on them.

There are currently 2,529 restaurants across Cambodia and 2,166 are reopening, while 363 continue to suspend their service and the rest were closed down.

According to H.E. Top Sopheak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Siem Reap province was the worst affected province, stressing that 90 percent of tourism-related businesses in the province were postponed and shut down.

Following the reopening of Cambodia, the number of national and international tourists to the province began to increase gradually, and 46 percent of tourism-related businesses have been reopened.

So far, some 5,000 international tourists visited Cambodia per day, and 700 to 800 of them visited Siem Reap, he added.

As of July 31, 2022, there are nearly 8,000 tourism-related businesses in Cambodia, and 681 or 8.63 percent of them continue to postpone their operation and 524 or 6.64 percent have been shut down.
