Outcomes of Virtual Meeting between Cambodian and Indian PMs

The following are the outcomes of the virtual meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his Indian counterpart H.E. Narendra Modi on May 18, released this afternoon by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation:

On the evening of 18 May 2022, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a virtual meeting with His Excellency Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India.

The two Prime Ministers expressed congratulations to each other on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries this year. As part of the milestone anniversary, His Excellency Narendra Modi invited His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONI, King of Cambodia, and Her Majesty Queen Mother NORODOM MONINEATH SIHANOUK, as well as Lieutenant General Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, to visit India at a mutually convenient time.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister appraised the efforts of His Excellency Narendra Modi and the Government of India for effectively and successfully curbing the spread of COVID-19 in India and expressed high appreciation to the people and Government of India for generous assistance of 325,000 doses of COVID-19 COVISHIELD vaccine under the Quad Initiative. His Excellency Narendra Modi commended the Royal Government of Cambodia under the wise leadership of Samdech Techo Prime Minister for the successful prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic in Cambodia.

Both leaders expressed their satisfaction over the growing cordial relations of friendship and bilateral cooperation, including trade and investment, human resource development, defense and security, development cooperation, connectivity and people-to-people ties. His Excellency Narendra Modi reiterated India’s commitment to Cambodia’s socio-economic development, with viewing Cambodia as an important part of India’s Act East Policy.

The two Prime Ministers have been gratified by the progress of cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations and Mekong-Ganga Cooperation. Samdech Techo Prime Minister expressed high appreciation to India for her active contribution to the Mekong region and assistance extended to Cambodia through Quick Impact Projects under Mekong-Ganga Cooperation Initiative in the field of agriculture, environment, health, rural development, education, women empowerment and culture.

Both leaders exchanged views on the regional and international issues of common interests and concerns, including Myanmar, issue of Russia-Ukraine, South China Sea and ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.

His Excellency Narendra Modi warmly congratulated Cambodia for assuming the role as the ASEAN Chair 2022, and reiterated India’s full support for its successful Chairmanship. In response, Samdech Techo Prime Minister expressed his high appreciation for the support.

In concluding the conversation, Samdech Techo Prime Minister cordially invited His Excellency Narendra Modi to pay an official visit to Cambodia and attend ASEAN-India summit and other related summits in November 2022. His Excellency Narendra Modi accepted the invitation with pleasure.
