Outcomes of Saudi FM’s Visit in Cambodia

The following are the outcomes of the official visit of H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Cambodia on Mar. 18, released this evening by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation:

“At the invitation of His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia on 18 March 2022 in order to enhance relations and cooperation between the two countries.

During his visit, H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud paid a courtesy call on Samdech Akka Moha Seha Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Samdech Techo Prime Minister has extended an invitation to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to pay an official visit to Cambodia.

In a bilateral meeting, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn and His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud discussed various fields of cooperation and shared the view that this visit is a starting point for the promotion of relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed that both countries have not yet explored all of their existing cooperation potentials and had the common commitment to further strengthen and broaden the scope of their bilateral cooperation.

On trade and investment, the Deputy Prime Minister, after referring to Cambodia’s encouraging opportunities, especially the favorable new investment law, the several Free Trade Agreements and RCEP that has come into effect earlier this year, requested his counterpart to encourage Saudi businessmen to invest in Cambodia in a number of key areas, including tourism, agriculture, renewable energy. He also expressed interest in Saudi Arabia’s experience and expertise in oil and gas production and asked for scholarships on oil and gas engineering training.

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister requested Saudi Arabia to consider importing agricultural products from Cambodia and shared experience on the production of halal food. In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister touched on the cooperation in education and the exchange of diplomatic skills between the institutes of diplomacy of both countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn encouraged the Saudi side to consider signing an MoU on Tourism Cooperation with Cambodia and to speed up its consideration of MoU on Scientific and Educational Cooperation between the two countries.

His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn and His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud also discussed and shared the same views on the establishment of a mechanism for bilateral cooperation, particularly the regular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of both countries.

During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers also discussed and exchanged views on some important regional and international issues of common interests and concerns. They expressed satisfaction with the existing mutual support and pledged to further enhance it. H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud expressed his support to and best wishes for Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship. Both sides shared the same position to abide by the UN Charter and the international laws as well as the respects for sovereignty and the principle of non-interference into internal affairs.
