Kandal Khmer Product Market Continues to Boost Local Economy and Agriculture

Kandal: The Khmer Product Market in Kandal province remains a consistent weekend fixture, actively promoting and distributing a diverse array of local agricultural and processed goods, the Kandal Provincial Department of Commerce announced today.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the market, located at the Takhmao Riverside Park, operates every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It provides a crucial platform for farmers and local producers to sell products-including safe vegetables, fresh fruits, meats, rice, and various processed foods-directly to consumers.

Operational since 2019, the initiative is organised by the Provincial Department of Commerce under the Accelerating Inclusive Markets for Smallholders (AIMS) project of the Ministry of Commerce. It receives support from the Ministry and facilitation from the provincial administration.

The primary objective of the market is to expand market opportunities for farmers, small-scale producers, and agricultural cooperatives. By enhancing direct market linkages, the project aims to boost incomes and improve the livelihoods of participants.

The department emphasised that the act of supporting and consuming locally-sourced Khmer products is vital. It not only leads to an increase in local production and income but also contributes directly to improving the people’s living standards and promoting broader socio-economic development across the province.
