IOT Delegation Assesses Future ASEAN Observer Team Headquarters in Banteay Meanchey Province

Phnom penh: The ASEAN Interim Observer Team (IOT), led by Colonel Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, Malaysian Defence Attach© to Cambodia, inspected several locations for the future headquarters of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in Serei Sophorn city, Banteay Meanchey province this morning.

 

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the IOT delegation, under the coordination of the Ministry of National Defence, included representatives from Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Both resident and non-resident representatives embarked on their on-site inspection mission to assess the security situation along the border and observe the direct impacts of the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict.

 

The delegation’s itinerary included a visit to Military Region 5 in Battambang province, where they were briefed on the progress achieved since the ceasefire took effect. Following this, the team planned visits to Poipet International Border Checkpoint, O’ Bei Choan Border Checkpoint in Chokchey village, and Boeung Trakoun Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province, as well as Anseh Border Checkpoint in Preah Vihear province.

 

This mission was initiated from the outcome of the Special Meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) concluded on August 7, 2025. These meetings reaffirmed the importance of the IOT deployment.

 

Cambodia has reiterated its commitment to fully respect and implement the ceasefire reached on July 28, 2025, along with the 13-point agreed minutes adopted at the Extraordinary GBC Meeting on August 7, 2025. The meeting was observed by Malaysia, the United States of America, and the People’s Republic of China.

 

Cambodia is determined to work constructively and cooperatively with Thailand, Malaysia, other ASEAN member countries, and partners such as the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China. The aim is to ensure the effective implementation of the ceasefire and resolve all disputes peacefully, in line with international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.
