Phnom penh: The Interim Observer Team (IOT), led by Col. Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, Defence Attach© of Malaysia to Cambodia, embarked on a mission this morning to assess the border security situation impacted by the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand border conflict. The team will visit various border provinces to gain direct insights into the conditions on the ground.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, stated that the IOT delegation includes representatives from Brunei, Indonesia, Lao, Myanmar, Philippines, and Vietnam, totaling seven members. These representatives are both resident and non-resident observers.
The Ministry of National Defence has coordinated the delegation’s itinerary, which includes visits to Military Region 5 in Battambang province, the Poipet International Border Checkpoint, O’ Bei Choan Border Checkpoint in Chokchey village, Boeung Trakoun Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province, and Anseh Border Checkpoint in Preah Vihear province, as highlighted in a press briefing this morning.
The spokesperson noted that the mission results from discussions during the Special Meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee on August 7, 2025. These meetings emphasized the IOT deployment’s significance in maintaining stability in the region.
The Ministry of National Defence reiterated its commitment to upholding the ceasefire agreement, adhering to international law principles, resolving disputes peacefully, and maintaining sovereignty and territorial integrity.
