Indian Embassy Organises Run For Equality in Phnom Penh

The Embassy of India in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in association with Ekta Navnirman Trust, Jaipur, Indian Association in Cambodia and ‘Run with SAI’ organised Run for Equality, a 5-KM run starting from Wat Botum Park, Phnom Penh on April 23.

Around 150 runners from members of Indian Diaspora, Cambodian nationals and other nationals enthusiastically participated in the run aiming to commemorate birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Chief Architect of Constitution of India, civil rights leader of India and he was one of the greatest leaders and founding fathers of India, said the embassy in a press release.

The run was to celebrate the life and contributions of the greatest Leader and to inculcate constitutional values among citizens, to attempt the spread of feeling of equality, brotherhood, humanity, liberty, dignity and love, the source added.

A photo exhibition was also held during the event depicting contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as Chairman of Drafting Committee of Constitution, as first Law Minister and photos of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar with historical leaders, it pointed out.

According to the press release, the 5-KM run was also held as part of the celebrations of 70 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Cambodia and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM). The AKAM is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.

H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Indian Ambassador to Cambodia, thanked the member and partners for the success of the run and noted that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is the greatest leaders and founding fathers of India and hailed him as a visionary social reformer, jurist, and architect of India’s Constitution and mentioned that his teachings on equality, justice, and exclusivity continue to inspire and guide the Indians towards a more just society.

At the end of the event, the ambassador and Mr. Oun Batham aka SAI, the Guest of Honour handed over certificates of participation to the participants.
