New delhi: The Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Shri Randhir Jaiswal, has expressed concern over damage to conservation facilities at Preah Vihear Temple amid the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand border clashes.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, any damage to conservation facilities is unfortunate and is a matter of concern, Shri Jaiswal underlined in response to media queries regarding the situation. He emphasized the significance of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Preah Vihear Temple as a shared cultural heritage of humanity and highlighted India's involvement in its preservation. "We sincerely hope that all measures will be taken to fully safeguard the site and related conservation facilities," he stated.
Shri Jaiswal further reiterated India's appeal to both Cambodia and Thailand to exercise restraint and to take measures for the cessation of hostilities and prevention of further escalation. "We urge them to return to the path of dialogue and peace," he concluded.
At the same time, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea also issued a statement expressing deep concern over the recent military clashes and escalating tensions between the two neighboring countries. The statement extended heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the victims of the clashes and their bereaved families.
The government of the Republic of Korea urged both Cambodia and Thailand to peacefully resolve the situation through dialogue at the earliest possible time in accordance with international law and the Joint Declaration between Cambodia and Thailand issued on Oct. 26.
