Hyundai Motor’s April sales up 3.3 pct on increased global demand

Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s leading automaker, said Thursday its monthly sales rose 3.3 percent in April from a year earlier backed by a rise in global demand.

Hyundai Motor sold 345,840 vehicles last month, up from 334,890 units a year ago, the company said in a statement.

Exports rose 5.2 percent to 282,107 units, but domestic sales sank 4.4 percent to 63,733 units during the cited period.

Hyundai Motor said it sold 18,007 sedans, including 7,085 Grandeur models, in South Korea. Sales of its SUVs and minivans reached 20,314 units, including 5,847 Santa Fe units, at home.

Its luxury Genesis brand sold a combined 11,784 units last month in South Korea.
