Kampong cham: His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, reaffirmed his support for expanding green landscapes across the Kingdom during the celebration of the annual Arbour Day, held in Kaseithan village, Bos Knor commune, Chamkar Leu district, Kampong Cham province this morning. In his royal address, His Majesty described the Arbour Day as a national movement aimed at inspiring and encouraging Cambodian citizens to plant trees and protect forests throughout the country.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, the Arbour Day campaign has successfully launched a nationwide movement for forest conservation and tree replanting. This initiative has led to the creation of hundreds of thousands of hectares of tree plantations and public gardens across pagodas, schools, public spaces, communities, and tourist sites.
As of 2025, Cambodia has planted and nurtured over 21 million saplings using state funding. In addition, millions more saplings have been planted by citizens across the country-excluding fruit trees and industrial crops such as mango, jackfruit, coconut, oil palm, rubber, and cashew, the Minister added.
Arbour Day was first initiated in 1952 by His Majesty the late King-Father, Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk. The event was suspended for many years due to the civil war but was resumed in 1992. Since then, Cambodia has celebrated Arbour Day annually under the presidency of His Majesty the King, who consistently demonstrates strong commitment to reforestation and the conservation of natural resources.
