Phnom penh: Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, H.E. Jean-Noël BARROT, has expressed France's support to the efforts initiated by Malaysia, China, and the United States to achieve a peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels on the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict. This support was reaffirmed during a telephone call with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the call, H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed Cambodia's appreciation for France's steadfast support of the peace process, particularly for the Ceasefire Agreement of July 28, 2025, and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of Oct. 26, 2025. H.E. Prak Sokhonn highlighted the deterioration of the humanitarian situation, resulting in the displacement of over half a million Cambodian civilians, in addition to the damage inflicted on Cambodian cultural heritage sites amid the hostilities. In response, H.E. Jean-Noël BAR ROT appreciated the ASEAN Chair's Statement made in the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Current Situation Between Cambodia and Thailand, held on Dec. 22, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He welcomed the resumption of dialogue to resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict and the holding of the General Border Committee, scheduled for this afternoon. H.E. Deputy Prime Minister also reiterated Cambodia's unwavering commitment to peace and to the full implementation of the ceasefire.
