Phnom penh: The Cambodia-Thailand border has seen heightened tensions as Thai military forces continue their aggressive actions against Cambodia in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Military Regions, as reported by the Ministry of National Defence.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in the 3rd Military Region situated in Koh Kong province, the Thai military initiated attacks on Cambodia from the evening of December 19, 2025, through the following day. During this period, approximately 20 artillery shells were fired from a Thai warship, landing near the Cham Yeam border checkpoint. The situation in this area has since calmed.
The situation is more severe in the 4th Military Region, covering the provinces of Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear. On December 19, 2025, at 7:30 pm, heavy artillery, tanks, and infantry forces were used by the Thai military to infiltrate Phnom Khmoch and Bos Sbov Choam Te. Later that night, F16 fighter jets dropped bombs on O' Jik bridge, a civilian infrastructure located at the border area, causing significant damage. The following day, attacks continued with artillery shelling near Preah Vihear Temple and other key locations.
In the 5th Military Region, encompassing Banteay Meanchey and Pursat provinces, the Thai military's aggression persisted from December 19 to December 20, 2025. Incidents included artillery and tank shelling in several villages, reconnaissance drones violating Cambodian airspace, and airstrikes by F16 fighter jets targeting civilian areas. The Thai military also conducted incursions into Cambodian territory with infantry forces and armored vehicles.
Cambodian forces are actively responding to the incursions, defending against the continued aggression by Thai military forces, which is viewed as a violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
