Phnom penh: A Chinese company, KP Cement Industry Co., Ltd., has expressed interest in constructing a multipurpose port and supporting infrastructure valued at US$35 million in Kratie province. The aim is to transform the area into a hub for the transportation of agricultural products.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the proposal came to light during a meeting in Phnom Penh on August 13. The meeting included H.E. Dr. Hean Sahib, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Investment Promotion Working Group for the Northeast Provinces, along with a senior delegation from KP Cement Industry Co., Ltd.
H.E. Dr. Hean Sahib also briefed the delegation about a special investment promotion programme targeting the four northeast provinces. This programme seeks to enhance investment in priority sectors through incentives, preferences, and streamlined procedures.
The special investment promotion programme, officially launched in April, is set to run from 2025 to 2028. It concentrates on key sectors such as agriculture, agro-industry, and tourism in Kratie, Stung Treng, Rattanakiri, and Mondulkiri provinces.
KP Cement Industry Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of China’s Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd., headquartered in Beijing. This parent company operates 256 branches across 140 countries and invests in the energy and infrastructure sectors globally. As of 2024, it holds registered assets of approximately US$1 trillion and employs 140,000 people.
