Phnom Penh:Two young Cambodian women working for China Datang in Cambodia are participating in a 13-day study visit to China from October 7 to 20, 2026. During this visit, they are gaining firsthand experience in advanced power generation technologies, digital management systems, and diversified energy projects, with the goal of applying their knowledge to bolster Cambodia's energy sector.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the two participants, Ms. Teng Cheng Ann and Ms. Lay Chan Molliny, are exploring technical operations, practical applications, and innovations in China's energy industry. This visit provides them with the opportunity to understand how modern technologies and innovation can enhance operational efficiency and support the sustainable development of the energy sector.
Ms. Teng Cheng Ann expressed that the visit has broadened her perspective and provided valuable experience for her future work in Cambodia's energy sector. She is confident that the knowledge gained will strengthen her capabilities and enable her to contribute significantly to Cambodia's energy development. Similarly, Ms. Lay Chan Molliny noted that observing clean energy projects firsthand has deepened her understanding of the role of technology and innovation in energy development. She hopes the exchange of knowledge between Cambodia and China will continue to create opportunities for sustainable energy progress in Cambodia.
Both participants emphasized the importance of sharing practical experience and technical expertise to develop human resources and strengthen professional capabilities within the energy sector. They believe the insights gained from China's experience can be adapted to their work in Cambodia, fostering opportunities for further cooperation between the two countries.
The study visit underscores the ongoing cooperation between Cambodia and China in the electricity sector. Since 2010, Chinese-invested power generation projects have significantly increased Cambodia's nationwide electricity access rate and boosted the share of clean energy to more than 63 percent, placing Cambodia second among ASEAN member states. This collaboration highlights the significance of technical exchanges and human resource development in supporting the future growth of Cambodia's energy sector.
