Cambodia Strengthens Efforts Against Online Scams and Investigates Long Bay Case

Phnom Penh:The Royal Government of Cambodia has reinforced its commitment to combating online scams, with a focus on stringent law enforcement against such operations, prosecuting leaders and accomplices, and freezing assets linked to criminal activities. This was announced by H.E. Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister and Head of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS).

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the national campaign against online scams has involved various legal actions, including raids, judicial prosecutions, and ongoing investigations into cases awaiting trial. In the Long Bay development area of Koh Kong province, authorities have not permitted the site to operate as a hub for technology-based scam activities.

In February 2026, authorities discovered buildings within Long Bay suspected of hosting scam operations. Criminal groups had abandoned the site, leaving evidence behind. Koh Kong provincial authorities detained several suspects and seized evidence for further investigation, while the site remains under strict control.

On September 5, 2026, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet visited these controlled locations in Koh Kong to assess progress and directed authorities to maintain tight control and conduct thorough investigations.

Investigations are ongoing into Deng Pibing, suspected of involvement in Long Bay activities. The General Department of Immigration reported that Deng Pibing left Cambodia in late May 2026 and is subject to an Interpol Red Notice.

H.E. Chhay Sinarith emphasized that the Cambodian government and the CCOS remain resolute in their efforts to eradicate online scam activities.
