Cambodian PM Urges for Electricity Saving

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, this morning called on the public, especially the state institutions, to save electricity as the Royal Government is giving subsidies to stabilise the prices.

The Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) has also been impacted by the war in Ukraine and sanctions on Russia, and it has so far lost approximately US$100 million, the Premier said at a gathering with the Cambodian delegation before their departure for the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesia.

Without the government’s subsidisation, the electricity prices in Cambodia would already rise doubly, he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the EDC can generate enough energy to supply the local demand, but the production cost is high. “Therefore, please save as much as we can,” he added.

At the same time, Samdech Techo Prime Minister also asked the public to save the gasoline.

The electricity in Cambodia is currently generated from hydropower dams, coal-fired power plants, solar parks, and so on.
