Cambodian PM Reacts against a Former Thai Foreign Minister

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has reacted against a former Thai foreign minister Kasit Piromya who commented on his planned visit to Myanmar next month.

Addressing to the participants during his inspection visit to the construction site of the new Phnom Penh International Airport in Prek Sleng commune, Kandal Stung district, Kandal province this morning, the Cambodian Premier said “it is your (Kasit Piromya) right to speak, but you have to understand that this is also my right. Am I wrong when I try to keep ASEAN to be 10, not 9?”.

Kasit Piromya commented that Samdech Techo Hun Sen should not be discussing plans to visit Myanmar, which would provide legitimacy to the junta, before concrete steps are taken to end the country’s political crisis.

Regarding this comment, Samdech Techo Prime Minister reiterated that “if we don’t work with Myanmar’s authorities, who can we work with?”

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Thai government under Prime Minister H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha also work with the current Myanmar’s authorities.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen will pay a visit to the Union of Myanmar on Jan. 7-8, 2022, at the invitation of his Myanmar counterpart Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

The invitation was handed over to Samdech Techo Hun Sen by H.E. Wunna Maung Lwin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy of the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister of Myanmar information during his courtesy visit to the Cambodian Premier in Phnom Penh on Dec. 7.
