Phnom penh: A total of 21 Cambodian sports delegates, including coaches and athletes, have departed Phnom Penh to participate in the JJAU Southeast Asia Regional Jiu-Jitsu Championships 2025, which will take place in the Philippines from July 12 to 13.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Thong Panhathun, Secretary General of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of Cambodia, stated that 18 athletes are representing Cambodia in the regional tournament, which is being organised for the second time by the Southeast Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. The first edition was held in Bali, Indonesia, last year.

H.E. Thong Panhathun highlighted that the purpose of sending the national team is to enhance their skills in preparation for the SEA Games 2025, set to be hosted by Thailand in December. He added that the selected athletes are among the country’s best and have prior experience competing internationally.

Among the 18 athletes are two Cambodian-American competitors who are joining the national team for the first time. If
they perform well in the Philippines, they may be selected to represent Cambodia at the SEA Games later this year.

The Secretary General expressed his optimism that the athletes will rise to the challenge and bring home medals for the nation.
