Seoul: Cambodian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Khuon Phon Rattanak, detailed Cambodia's rigorous efforts to combat online crimes during a high-level meeting on Wednesday, noting that several South Korean suspects have already been apprehended and deported.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in a meeting with H.E. Bok Ki-wang, a member of the National Assembly representing Asan City, at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Seoul, Ambassador Rattanak emphasised the active role of the Cambodia-Korea Joint Task Force. He highlighted the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to dismantling cybercrime networks, resulting in the successful arrest and repatriation of multiple Korean nationals involved in illicit activities.
For his part, MP Bok Ki-wang acknowledged the collaborative efforts of both governments, stating that the South Korean public recognises the progress made in stabilising the situation. "The current environment has improved significantly," he said, adding that he looks forward to visiting Cambodia's historic Angkor Wat temple complex in the near future.
The discussion also touched upon the welfare of the large Cambodian community residing in Asan City. The Ambassador noted that the community is highly active, frequently organising major cultural and sporting events, including the Khmer New Year (Sankranta) and various football tournaments. Ambassador Rattanak requested continued cooperation from the South Korean lawmaker to facilitate these community programmes and invited him to participate in future embassy-led initiatives in Asan.
Furthermore, the Ambassador proposed exploring a "Sister City" partnership between Asan City and a suitable city or province in Cambodia to further strengthen bilateral ties and sub-national cooperation.
