Phnom Penh:Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, has recounted an assassination attempt against him by "political bandits" 28 years ago.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo shared his reflections on social media, noting the anniversary of the failed attempt on his life, which occurred on September 24, 1998.

He recalled that after surviving the assassination attempt, he vowed to consolidate power and end the ongoing war. Despite initially wanting to resign as Prime Minister after the 1998 election, his resignation was not accepted by party leaders. Although he had aimed to retire by 2003, the attempt on his life led him to remain in power until he chose to step down.

Samdech Techo further explained that he had fulfilled his declaration of becoming the father of the Prime Minister, with his son, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, having served as Prime Minister for over three years following constitutional elections. Although he intended to retire at age 46, the circumstances led him to continue serving as Prime Minister until he was 71.
