Cambodia, Yunnan Pledge to Deepen Media and Information Cooperation

Phnom penh: Cambodia and China’s Yunnan Province have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen collaboration in media and information, aiming to foster greater understanding and achieve new, mutually beneficial outcomes.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the pledge was made during a meeting on Sept. 29 between H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Cambodia’s Minister of Information, and a media delegation from Yunnan, led by H.E. Cai Xiangrong, Executive Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Yunnan Provincial Committee. Minister Neth Pheaktra highlighted the robust ‘diamond cooperation’ and long-standing friendship between the two nations’ leaders. He noted that 2025 represents a significant year for Cambodia-China relations, presenting a prime opportunity for journalists from both countries to build networks, exchange experiences, and share insights.

‘These exchanges are vital for advancing our media cooperation, delivering new benefits for our societies, and further cementing the Cambodia-China comprehensive strategic partnership,’ the Minister stated. He added that his ministry would continue to support media institutions from both nations in promoting the vision of a Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future.

In response, H.E. Cai Xiangrong commended Cambodia’s widespread development progress and the effective media partnership between the two sides. He emphasised their shared goal of fostering public understanding and ensuring citizens receive accurate and constructive information. H.E. Cai Xiangrong specifically praised the success of the recent cultural event, ‘Chasing Clouds and the Moon: A Bond Across Borders,’ co-hosted on Sept. 28 by the Ministry of Information and the Publicity Department of the Yunnan Provincial Committee. He stated that the programme effectively showcased Cambodia’s tourism, culture, traditions, and social stability.

The renewed commitment builds upon extensive existing collaboration. The two sides have been actively implementing joint projects in radio, television, news exchange, expertise sharing, professional training, and combating fake news. The Cambodian Ministry of Information has solidified these ties through several Memoranda of Understanding with Chinese counterparts, including the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), China Media Group (CMG), and the Yunnan Daily Group. Furthermore, since 2018, Cambodia’s information sector has received consistent financial support through the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund.
