Cambodia Speaks Highly of Japan’s Support to Regional Integration

H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has emphasised the importance of Japan’s generous support to regional integration and socio-economic development through bilateral and regional frameworks, including the Mekong-Japan cooperation.

At the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with Japan held on Aug. 3 via videoconference, H.E. Prak Sokhonn also recognised Japan as a key trade and investment partner of ASEAN and expressed optimism that the RCEP will be of great value to the recovery process.

While recognising the importance of Japan’s support for enhancing regional infrastructure connectivity, including in Cambodia, H.E. Prak Sokhonn called for more cooperation projects to generate synergies between the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC) 2025 and the Expanded Partnership for Quality Infrastructure.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference with Japan reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthen ASEAN-Japan relations through the implementation of the Revised Implementation Plan of the Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation: Shared Vision, Shared Identity, Shared Future.

ASEAN expressed appreciation to Japan for the provision of vaccines, support for socio-economic recovery through development financing, and the strengthening regional resilience through the establishment of the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED). Both ASEAN and Japan agreed to facilitate a swift economic recovery by effectively implementing the ASEAN-Japan Economic Resilience Action Plan and supporting the implementation of the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework.
