New york: The Royal Government of Cambodia has reaffirmed its support for global food security initiatives. This commitment was articulated by H.E. Keo Chhea, Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the United Nations, during the United Nations Security Council Open Debate. The debate, titled ‘Framing the Global Dialogue: Addressing Food Insecurity as a Driver of Conflict and Ensuring Food Security,’ was chaired by the Republic of Sierra Leone, the rotating President of the Security Council for November 2025, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Keo Chhea emphasized the detrimental impact of war on food security, highlighting that civilians suffer the most. He stressed that protecting civilians must be central to efforts aimed at ensuring food security. The Ambassador denounced the targeting of civilians, including the destruction of agricultural production for political objectives, urging that such actions be condemned.
The Permanent Representative highlighted Cambodia’s 3rd National Strategy for Food Security and Nutrition 2024-2028 and presented key points to the Council. These points included a call for strengthened monitoring under Resolution 2417, adherence to international humanitarian law, protection of humanitarian workers, and the importance of national ownership for sustainable food security outcomes.
