Cambodia Protests Against Thai Military’s Activities in Occupied Cambodian Territory

Phnom penh: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) has formally registered Cambodia's strongest protest against the illegal activities conducted by Thai armed forces in occupied Cambodian territory, citing actions that violate existing ceasefire and de-escalation agreements.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in the latest protest, Cambodia categorically objected to the obstruction of access with containers and road construction in the provinces of Oddar Meanchey and Pursat.

The Ministry reported that on February 5, 2026, Thai armed forces placed containers to block road access at two locations in Oddar Meanchey province, namely Rouch Champey village and O'Khla Khmum village in O'Smach district. Two days later, on February 7, 2026, Thai armed forces commenced a road construction extending from the container blockade site in O'Khla Khmum village. On the same day, additional containers were placed by Thai armed forces in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.

'These locations are situated well within Cambodian territory as delimited pursuant to the Franco-Siamese Convention of 1904 and the Treaty of 1907,' the MFAIC underlined. 'The construction of physical barriers and roads on Cambodian territory, occupied by Thai forces during their offensive from December 7 to 27, 2025, directly contravenes the de-escalation measures agreed upon under Item I of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on December 27, 2025.'

These actions further impede the safe and dignified return of displaced Cambodians to their homes and properties and amount to a deliberate attempt to reshape the security environment and establish new realities on the ground in areas under Thailand's illegal occupation, in breach of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter, the Ministry added.

Nevertheless, Cambodia reaffirmed its firm commitment to resolving all border issues through peaceful means and in accordance with international law, while strictly adhering to the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special GBC Meeting of December 27, 2025, and other relevant bilateral agreements.
