Phnom penh: Cambodia's National Assembly President Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary on Wednesday characterised the "great national unity" of the Cambodian people as the country's most vital asset in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity under the leadership of the Royal Government.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Sudary lauded the collective spirit of Cambodians both at home and abroad during an aid handover ceremony in Phnom Penh. She expressed gratitude for their steadfast support of the Royal Government and front-line troops, describing this solidarity as a "strong foundation" for national defense.
The remarks were made during an event where the National Assembly President accepted donations from advisors to the National Assembly and the Ministry of Interior. The contributions, including food and essential supplies, are destined for military personnel and displaced civilians along the border regions.
Addressing the current geopolitical context, Samdech Sudary reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to protecting its borders through legal and diplomatic channels. "Territorial integrity is protected by international law," she stated, emphasising that Cambodia remains firm in its refusal to recognise any unilateral border changes or illegal occupations. She noted that the Royal Government's priority remains the sovereignty of the nation and the safety of its citizens.
Samdech Sudary underscored that Cambodia continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution to border issues with neighbouring Thailand. She specifically cited the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) as the primary mechanism for land border demarcation to ensure "accuracy and justice" for both nations in accordance with existing bilateral agreements.
The National Assembly President noted that the outpouring of charitable support reflects public confidence in the leadership of Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
The National Assembly has mobilised its leadership and staff to provide financial and material aid to those affected by recent tensions. The latest donations - which include several tonnes of rice, water, and dried provisions - will be distributed across the border provinces of Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, and Koh Kong.
A portion of the aid is also earmarked for military hospitals and the families of soldiers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. "This spirit of 'Khmer helping Khmer' is a powerful momentum," Samdech Sudary said. "It ensures that our front-line heroes are never isolated from the support of those at the rear."
