Phnom penh: The Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA), supported by Oxfam, has officially unveiled the "Green Loan Playbook," a framework aimed at promoting sustainable finance and climate resilience within Cambodia's microfinance sector.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the initiative was introduced under the "Resilience for All" (CREFA) project during an event held in Phnom Penh. The playbook offers microfinance institutions (MFIs) a practical toolkit for designing, piloting, and managing green loan products, incorporating environmental considerations into their primary lending practices.
The launch event featured Ms. Edel Cribbin, Head of Development Cooperation at the Irish Embassy, who highlighted Ireland's longstanding dedication to climate action and human development in Cambodia, in line with the Kingdom's Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1.
Ms. Sophoan Phean, National Director of Oxfam in Cambodia, emphasized in her keynote address that the playbook represents a commitment to a sustainable and greener Cambodia. She stated that green finance encompasses not only climate considerations but also equity, justice, and sustainable economic opportunities for everyone.
Oxfam noted that by enhancing the capacity of MFIs to manage climate-related risks, the playbook aims to strengthen client resilience and improve overall portfolio risk management. It is designed as a foundational step for responsibly expanding green finance initiatives throughout the country.
