Cambodia Launches World’s Largest 5G Mobile Phone Network

Phnom penh: Cambodia's three telecommunication providers have introduced 5G mobile phone services starting from Jan. 1, 2026, marking a milestone in the country's technology and digital development. The 5G service debuts are provided by major mobile operators including Cellcard (CamGSM), Metfone (Viettel Cambodia), and Smart (Smart Axiata), as announced by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC).

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the initial phase of the 5G network coverage includes Phnom Penh and key locations in several provinces, such as Siem Reap, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Kratie, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Preah Sihanouk, Stung Treng, and Kampot. The Ministry has stated that the 5G coverage will progressively expand, aiming to eventually reach all provinces across the country. This phased approach is designed to ensure network stability while extending access to both urban and rural communities.

The MPTC's latest report indicates that there are four mobile internet service providers, four fixed phone service providers, and 39 internet service providers (ISP) in Cambodia. The country has 19.62 million internet subscribers, while mobile phone users reached 20.69 million as of April this year.
