Cambodia Demands Thailand Stop Using Landmine Incident to Conceal Ceasefire Violations

Phnom penh: H.E. Pen Bona, Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, has called on Thailand to immediately stop using the landmine incident to mislead the international community and conceal its violations of the ceasefire agreement. Speaking at a regular press briefing in Phnom Penh, H.E. Pen Bona stated that Thailand is using the landmine explosion as an issue to blame Cambodia and portray itself as the victim to mislead the international community, despite Thai military forces violating the ceasefire agreement by moving troops into the landmine-infested area left over from the war.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Pen Bona accused Thai forces of laying tires, installing barbed wire, and mobilizing weapons during the ceasefire agreement’s implementation, presenting these activities as irrefutable proof of Thailand’s violations. He highlighted Points 2 and 4 of the 13-point agreement reached at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee on August 7, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Point 2 of the agreement requires both sides to maintain current troop deployments without further movement as of the ceasefire reached at midnight on July 28, 2025, prohibiting troop movements, including patrols toward the other side’s position. Point 4 restricts both sides from undertaking provocative actions that may escalate tensions, including military activities entering the other side’s airspace, territory, or positions as of the ceasefire. Both sides also agreed to refrain from constructing or enhancing any military infrastructure or fortifications beyond their own side.

H.E. Pen Bona emphasized that the landmine incident would not have occurred if the Thai side had fully respected and implemented the ceasefire agreement by maintaining their troop deployments without further movement from the positions held at midnight on July 28, 2025.
