Cambodia-China Mekong Kratie Friendship Bridge to Open for Public Use in April 2026

Kratie: The Cambodia-China Mekong Kratie Friendship Bridge in Kratie province is scheduled to open for public use on April 1, 2026, announced H.E. Phan Rim, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, today.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, as of early November 2025, the bridge construction is 98.36 percent complete, while the overall project – including the bridge, connecting roads, and related infrastructure – has reached 87.39 percent completion. H.E. Phan Rim stated that the construction company is currently finalising the remaining works such as traffic markings, installation of lighting poles, and connecting the approach roads to the bridge.

The groundbreaking for the project took place on Jan. 2, 2023. The bridge links Talous village of Bos Leav commune in Chetr Borei district with Thmar Reap village of Prek Prasop commune in Prek Prasop district.

The bridge spans 1,761 metres in length and 13.5 metres in width, accommodating vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. It is supported by 36 piers and includes a navigable section measuring 100 metres in width and 15 metres in height.

The project is financed through a concessional loan of approximately US$114 million from the Government of the People’s Republic of China. It is being built by the Shanghai Construction Group (SCG) with technical oversight from Wan’an Guangzhou Technical Consultant.
