Cambodia, Brazil Eye Strategic Cooperation on Gender Equality and SME Ties

Phnom penh: Cambodia and Brazil are moving to deepen cooperation on gender equality and female entrepreneurship following a high-level meeting between Cambodia's Minister of Women's Affairs and Brazil's top diplomat in the Kingdom. Minister H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi met with Brazilian Ambassador H.E. Ms. Vivian Loss Sanmartin on Friday to establish a framework for exchanging policy expertise on women's economic empowerment and the "Women, Peace and Security" agenda.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the talks, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi proposed formalising links between women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in both nations. The proposal specifically highlighted technical training in food processing as a primary area for bilateral knowledge transfer. "The meeting focused on scaling women's leadership and integrating gender mainstreaming into national governance," the Ministry said in a statement.

Ambassador Sanmartin's visit marks a period of accelerating diplomacy between the two nations. While diplomatic ties were established in 1994, Brazil only inaugurated its resident embassy in Phnom Penh in late 2024. Beyond economic ties, the two officials discussed joint strategies to combat gender-based violence and improve educational access for girls.
